Introduction
If you are looking for a CBD product, it’s important to know the different types of oil available and their unique characteristics.
THC and CBD are just two of the cannabinoids found in Cannabis Sativa. In total, there are 104 cannabinoids [1] that can be extracted from different strains of the cannabis plant, each of which has different benefits for overall balance and wellbeing. Each harvest of the Cannabis Sativa Hemp variant can hold a slightly different spectrum of cannabinoids, leading to slight differences in smell, taste and colour of the oil extracted.

Once the original extract has been taken it is then processed in several different ways to create different products, from our full spectrum original extract to our refined broad-spectrum extract products – both of which meet the strict THC content regulations (less than 0.2% THC).
The array of cannabinoids contained within our extracts all interact with your unique endocannabinoid system, a system that is involved in a wide variety of physiological processes.
What does trace mean?
Only compounds above 0.01% of any given solution are able to be detected accurately with modern analytical machines, below these levels, “in analytical chemistry, [the] lower limit of detection, or LOD (limit of detection), is the lowest quantity of a substance that can be distinguished from the absence of that substance with a stated confidence level” of generally 99% (en.wikipedia.org), but may still remain at trace, undetectable levels. This is similar to how alcohol-free beer must be <0.05% alcohol, not absolute zero. [2]
The most common techniques used for analysing the cannabinoids in hemp extracts are high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC; formerly referred to as high-pressure liquid chromatography), and gas chromatography.
Hempura Original Full Spectrum CBD Products
Hempura Full-Spectrum Original extracts are left in a relatively raw state after initial extraction, therefore still contain the full spectrum of cannabinoids and compounds found in the original hemp plant.
You can identify the full-spectrum CBD oil extract by its dark colour and strong fragrance of cannabis from the natural terpene profile and organic compounds extracted. This oil is highly potent, a rich and authentic cannabis sativa hemp extract. Our Original CBD Extract is left as nature intended, straight from the fields with the accompanying earthy taste.
Hempura Refined Broad Spectrum CBD Products
Hempura’s refined extracts are manufactured from the same base extract as our Full-Spectrum Original, except the extract has been winterised and further purified after initial extraction. These filtration and refinement techniques allow unnecessary compounds to be removed (like the original hemp constituents), leaving a highly activated golden oil containing a refined cannabinoid and terpene extract.
It’s important to note that the refinement and purification process does slightly reduce the overall trace cannabinoid spectrum. This applies to all of the cannabinoids in the extract, which will still remain but at lower trace levels than the original extract. Both our Original and Refined CBD products contain the same amounts of active CBD in weight, as well as being similar in nature and effect but with very different tastes.
CBD Isolate Products
Unlike full CBD hemp extract products (like our original full-spectrum and refined extract oils), CBD isolate products do not contain any spectrum of cannabinoids or terpenes, instead choosing to focus on a single one – in this case, pure CBD.
The CBD isolate extraction process removes all the plant matter and all the other cannabinoids until the only one remaining is CBD (in its crystal form). The CBD is then suspended in a type of additional carrier oil, like coconut oil or olive oil.
Some people prefer CBD isolate products to the full spectrum CBD products, as the isolation process removes all traces of THC in the product (even though all of our products contain less than 0.2% THC and are therefore legal in the UK), whilst retaining the unique benefits of CBD.
