What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many chemicals present in Cannabis Sativa. Industrial Hemp – a variety of Cannabis Sativa – has extremely low levels of the psychoactive element tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and so is considered safe for human consumption, as long as it meets strict growing, harvesting and manufacturing criteria. Overall, it is the absence of THC that is the most important factor when determining whether a CBD product is legal or not; CBD hemp oil and other products must contain undetectable levels of THC and CBN (Cannabinol, another cannabinoid found in Cannabis Sativa) to be considered legal in the UK, as these are both classed as restricted substances.  All Hempura products contain less than 0.01% THC and CBN, and all our products are closely monitored to ensure that our products are both legal and safe for use. If you want to read more about CBD’s legal status in the UK and Europe, you can find out more here.

In January 2019, CBD extracts were confirmed as a ‘novel food’ in the EU[1] and in order to remain legal for sale in the UK and EU in the coming years, any business that manufactures and sells CBD products will need to submit and have fully validated novel food authorisation applications by 31 March 2021. After this date, only products for which the Food Standards Agency (the FSA) has a valid application will be allowed to remain on the market.

As a reputable manufacturer of quality CBD products that meet UK and EU guidelines for the cultivation and processing of Hemp and the sale of CBD products, we can continue to market and sell our CBD products (as per FSA guidelines) until the 31st March 2021 as they are correctly labelled, are not unsafe and do not contain substances that fall under drugs legislation.  Our products will also have a novel foods application to ensure that we can continue to manufacture and sell our products beyond 31st March 2021.

Do you need a CBD Oil Prescription?

CBD oil as a supplement for wellness and balance doesn’t require a prescription, and can legally be purchased online and in physical stores, though it is highly recommended that you find a trusted and reputable seller who offers high-quality CBD products to ensure the safety and efficacy of the products.

Hempura’s range of CBD products are manufactured from an original high-quality hemp extract. This extract undergoes strict manufacturing processes, as well as THC removal to ensure legality and safety for our customers. As our extracts come from organically grown Cannabis Sativa plants, there are microscopic amounts of THC present in our compounds, but these are at an undetectable level (of less than 0.01%), making them legal for sale in the UK and many EU countries.

Will CBD Oil be available on the NHS?

There are some licensed medications that already contain CBD[2], and in very rare circumstances, medical cannabis (which contains CBD) may be prescribed by a specialist hospital-based doctor in order to help relieve the symptoms of some very rare medical conditions, though it depends entirely on the unique circumstances of the individual and the specialist insight of their consultant. However, as we mentioned earlier, you don’t actually need a prescription in order to purchase CBD oil products, like the Hempura range, in the UK.

Where can I buy CBD oil?

In the UK, Cannabis is classed as a Class B drug[3] under the Misuse of Drugs Act, but CBD products that meet strict UK guidelines and are sold by reputable retailers are fully legal – hence their increasing popularity in the UK and their appearance on shelves in the high street! You can now buy CBD Oil from Tesco alongside your grocery shopping or buy CBD Oil in Superdrug whilst you purchase cosmetics. The fact that you can purchase CBD Oil from Holland and Barrett highlights its growing popularity as a wellness product alongside other popular and well-known supplements for improving health and wellbeing.

CBD Oil UK eBay – can I buy CBD oil online from eBay?

eBay prohibits the sale of CBD products on its platform, so any CBD products that you do find on the site are technically going against the organisation’s terms of service.  Though it is challenging to locate the exact regulations that prohibit the sale of CBD items in their terms of use documentation, their viewpoint is clearly demonstrated in a tweet made by the official eBay Twitter account on the 24th May 2019 which stated “The sale of CBD products is highly regulated in many countries. While they may be legal to buy and sell in some countries, they are regulated by the FDA and enforced by some law enforcement agencies. For this reason, we have decided to prohibit the items globally.”

CBD Oil UK Amazon – can I buy CBD oil on Amazon?

Amazon, like eBay, also prohibits the sale of cannabidiol (CBD) in any product on its platform.  If you find CBD Oil on Amazon, the CBD products that you find on the site are technically going against these rules and terms of use, and the company has advised that its systems blocked more than 3 billion suspected bad listings last year alone.[4]  For this reason, it is highly recommended that you trust a leading CBD oil brand that manufactures and sells premium quality CBD products – like Hempura.

Trust a reputable CBD retailer!

It’s important to ensure that you are purchasing legitimate and trusted CBD products from a responsible CBD manufacturer and retailer. Here at Hempura, all of the Industrial Hemp we use is sourced from carefully selected regulated and compliant EU farms. It is always organically grown and is herbicide, pesticide, fungicide & GMO-free, with no harmful contaminants.  Each harvest is tested before purchase, during extraction and during the manufacturing process of our individual products, helping to ensure consistency, quality and safety.  If you would like to find out more about our ethos and manufacturing process, you can learn more here.
